

Updating the styles means that your document’s current styles are changed to reflect those of the new template, which is probably what you want. You would be thinking but when you just click new, a document just opens, even if you don’t select any template. Meaning that margins, font styles, color, etc., is passed on to the new document. So that MS Word can create a new document as a child of that template. When you open a new document in MS Word, you have to select a template first.
